Computer Diagnostics, Check Engine Management Light (EML) and Error / Fault codes

Computer Diagnostics, Check Engine Management Light (EML) and Error / Fault codes

If your vehicle’s performance changes or function become abnormal, an ‘Engine Management Light’ (EML) or ‘Check Engine’ light or symbol may appear on your dashboard to indicate an error / fault code is present and needs attention. Diagnosing and tackling errors as early as possible may prevent faults developing into something more serious and costly.

Simply deleting the EML light does not resolve the issue indicated by the error code. If vehicle error codes have been erased and cleared prior to us inspecting the vehicle, it could be more of a time consuming job to replicate and read the fault codes. Historic codes may be present for previous issues or may be falsely triggered. To correctly diagnose and rectify a fault on a vehicle it is therefore very important to receive as much circumstancial information and technical data as possible.

Vehicle Diagnostics at TyreCom Autos

From the right equipment to the right diagnosis, TyreCom Autos offers the options, performance and support that today’s modern cars require.

We use some of the most versatile and advanced vehicle diagnostics software tools available that covers many makes and models and allows us to run a full and comprehensive check on your vehicle and perform even the most complex of jobs with ease.

The software will read engine and emission control diagnostic details provided by the car’s Onboard Diagnostic (OBD) system in numerical and graphic forms.

The readings may include useful error codes, values, graphs and live data to make it possible to understand the state of your car’s systems and helps us solve possible problems that may occur.

Combining diagnostics, fault finding methods and by using an extensive database of diagnostic trouble codes, we can then identify mechanical / electronic faults and fix them. The software can also be handy for monitoring fuel economy or to check vehicles for emission testing.

Computer Diagnostics

Engine Management Light related issues include:

  • Bad spark plug/ignition coil
  • Bad mass air flow sensor
  • Engine vacuum leak
  • EGR valve problem
  • Excessive fuel consumption or release of air pollutants

Specialist diagnostic equipment is often needed for other functions such as:

  • to program / reset service lights
  • Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) regeneration to ‘unblock’ the DPF filter
  • Adjust caliper settings for brake changes

Vehicle Diagnostics Pricing

We will read the EML and if needed attempt to reset the EML code. If an EML error code reappears, we will read the code again. We will not charge you again if it is related to the original error code.

Computer diagnostics are £45 + vat and you will receive a print-out of the error code results.

Avoid Expensive Dealership Visits

With TyreCom Autos as we cover so many different makes and models, we will endeavour to guide you and help reduce the amount that you spend by potentially avoiding expensive dealer visits altogether.

For example, by diagnosing a relatively low-cost repair such as the replacement of malfunctioning O2 oxygen sensor can save you the cost of replacing an expensive exhaust catalytic converter later. If the ‘cat’ is not available in aftermarket via 3rd party manufacturers, you may have no choice but to purchase a very expensive original part. An early vehicle diagnosis code read can better help avoid this.
